For the last year I have been working for an Electronics company which among other things has a computer section that covers all the components required for home computing and small business. Although I previously had some technical knowledge it has been difficult to deal with customer enquiries regarding detailed aspects of computers including PSU's graphic cards, networking and the troubleshooting of hardware failures. Due to what I have learnt on the CompTIA A+ course already I have been able to solve a number of problems for customers that I would not have previously been able to do. One situation in particular concerned a gentleman who relied completely on his computer for his livelyhood. After adding a new graphics card to his computer he was advised by another local Nationwide computer retail chain on changing his PSU to provide enough power for the additional card. A few days later his computer started to smell of burning and failed completely. After finding no help with the retailer and being quite frustrated and worried that he could not afford a new computer he came to us looking for advice. After are initial discussion and my recent module on PSU's it seemed clear that his PSU he had been advised to get was either faulty or inadequate for the task. Once an inspection of the computer could be done I identified the graphics card and its own power requirements as well as the rest of the computer's components. The card required 20 amps more than the PSU he had been advised to get could provide. From this and what I had learned I was able not only to recommend an appropriate PSU but fit it and checked that no permanent damage had occurred. Up to this point I had been supervising Audio Visual and Public Address enquiries. Thanks to just the first few modules of the course I have been able not only to help the gentleman keep his ability to keep his job but I am now being given the opportunity at work to take on more computer enquiries and troubleshooting thus making sure I have job security in an uncertain retail business period. Thank you for the chance to do this course and the gentleman I helped thanks you too!

I have achieved a few things this month, but these things have been very significant towards the direction of my life as a Cisco network engineer. I managed to finish part A of the 1st section of my course with very good marks on my TMAs', and I also helped 4 people troubleshoot and fix minor problems on their computers using the ASID technique of trouble shooting. the biggest achievement was helping replace and network about 32 computers for an organisation I volunteer for in ipswich. and because I did not need much help or explanations [thank to skillstrain] it only took just 2 of us to do the job i.e. the IT guy for the organisation and me.

Having read about power and connections I was able to fault find a problem with my brothers laptop ie no power. As a result I was able to strip down the laptop and locate the problem to the power jack plug.I replaced the plug de-soldering and resoldering another resulting in a much cheaper repair than my brother was quoted.

I'm keen with computers but I was lazy to study courses but now I managed to increase my results and I am doing my best to keep going like that, because I see future after I finish this course, I always want to work with computers and be somebody responsible for IT things in companies. Now I'm working and people, knowing I'm doing this course, asking me more questions about computers and its pleasure for me to help them and advise them. Previously I worked for my friend like a freelancer and help him resolving problems with his company's computers (some kinda consultant). I'm thinking after this course I am more positively thinking about the future.

I have just submitted TMA 10 from JavaScript Section 2 part A of CIW, I have been stuck on JavaScript for some time. I have been unwell and in extreme pain with my neck and back for the past year, having just had a MRI scan I now am receiving pain relief and physiotherapy to help bring me back to a normal life again, as normal as it gets. I got behind on my course just because of the position of my neck whilst working on my pc, causing so much pain. it turns out that I have a damaged cervical bone in C6/7??Whatever that means! From a past rugby injury 24 years ago All I know is that it has been unbearable to say the least. Now its all under control with pain killers and anti inflammatory tablets and regular physio, I am back on track again. I also suffer mental health problems which makes things more complicated, taking medication etc. Still I am going to beat all this, I am currently working on two web sites for a friend and my son, as experience and am eager to get further with my course. I have never stopped wanting to complete my course and know I can do it if I continue to work hard. I know there are other people out there with worse problems than mine. I love reading the success stories of students that have succeeded on their own courses and this helps inspire me to study on. It has been frustrating and can't tell you in words how hard the last year has been, but as I am studying now I have rediscovered how much I love learning and how good the course has been written. The Internet and web site design is an opportunity for me to express myself as a designer, and enable me to get back to work again, which has been 9 years with my mental health problems! I feel strong again and that's down to achieving with my learning. I am having a work station built that's is ergonomically perfect to work with, to relieve the stresses on my neck and back, we should all be aware of the importance of correct posture and ergonomics working with computers, to avoid posture related joint problems. I am looking forward to section 2 part B coming in the post and can't wait to get started. Many thanks to skillstrain and the tutor team for their hard work in supporting us all, I'm sure I speak for most in saying your work is very much appreciated.

Looking for work with the credit crunch at the moment isn't easy, let alone trying to find an IT job at this time. I applied for a job as a Support Analyst for a company. I went through a group assessment for this 1 job that almost 100 people applied for. I was pleased with getting to the next interview stage and successfully got the job. I have now been working there for two months now, and am studying the rest of my course, whilst also going on an ITIL course, funded by my new company.

As a working mother of 3 children aged 12, 7 and 4 I thought I might have bitten off more than I could chew when I started PART A of the CIW course. Even now concentrating on writing this passage I have one child crying to my left as the other is arguing with him on my right. Then a question about homework aaaahhh!

But here I am at the end of PART A with results varying between 90% to 100% on my progress report. All this has been achieved by extremely late nights and a lot of juggling around my partners shift patterns.

I have used the information I have learnt so far to help my parents set up email accounts and have also set up wireless connections for my brother's numerous laptops so he can have access to the internet at my house when we are working on his business.

I came back to studies after a long lay-off. The stories in 'cyberclass' of fellow students achieving great success keeps me motivated. I successfully followed a revision plan on the A+ course and sat 2 exams in 1 month! I passed both the exams and achieved an overall 93%. This is the 1st of a few courses I am doing with Skills Train- well on my way to become a Network Engineer.

I feel I have achieved a lot recently.

I had quite a few months break in doing my course due to other commitments. I have now resumed doing as much of my course as possible. This is between looking after my 1 year old daughter, who is into everything, including trying to tear apart my course books.

I have now returned back to work, where, thanks to me undergoing this course, I am working my way up to be an IT professional. I have recently got a job working for a bank in their IT head office, and this course helped me to get there.

I also now, aim to study my course every lunchtime at work, as this is the only time I can now do this without any distractions.

I feel I have achieved a lot recently with juggling my little girl, working full time, commuting to work, and studying too, but feel it is all worth it, and will someday be an IT professional, and someone who my daughter will look upto.

Since enrolling on my CIW Web Design manager course I have been offered placement on web design & development projects in which I never would have been invited if I didn't gain the amount of skills that I have developed.

Some of these projects involve: Designing HTML email newsletters and micro-sites for major companies such as Adobe UK, Potterton, Baxi Group, ArgosBs, and many more.

Due to the skills I have gained, I now manage and maintain my own web server with websites, blogs, and an attractive portfolio of web designs.

I have also been able to help some friends who are students at the local university to gain more skills and understand their work because of the skills gained on the CIW course. I have helped them with design, development and project management and this helped them to be better prepare and organized to get the most of their university experience.

I was also told by a Professor in their university that this year that I can enroll into their Bsc (Hons) Computer Science and Software engineering course “with direct entry into the second or third year of the degree” because of the skills that I have already developed.

that is excellent as I've always been interested in going to university but could not afford the time required to attend for a full degree (3 or 4 years). Thanks to the skills gained from the course and my hard work, I can now get a degree in just 1 or 2 years.

That news is great because such an opportunity will allow me to gain added skills such as Object Oriented programming languages, relational databases and much more. Those skills along with the ones being learned on the CIW course (Perl, JavaScript, Server administration, etc) will definitely help me to achieve my goals and dreams

I now look towards the future with content, knowing that I will succeed.
