I started my course shortly after immigrating to the UK from South Africa. I am enjoying the course thoroughly and am learning new things everyday. I cannot wait to come home from work and continue with the next part of my course. My main achievement is my ability to stage a come back to education through the skillstrain after so long time off school. The decision to go for IT training is not easy but I've been able to overcome the fear of getting back which to me a great achievement I didn't really know anything about computers before I started the course, as I only got my first computer last year. But since starting the course I have improved my knowledge considerably. I dismantled an old computer to get try and link some of the theory in the book with more practical work. I have helped various friends with problems on their computers, such as virus infections that required new protection installed. I am a mother of 4, 2 of which are disabled at 14 years of age. I have been on many courses (dental technology, interior design and nursing) but with the twins growing up and needing most or all of my attention at home they were all short lived. Doing a course like this, from home means I am there when they want me and still have time to study, sometimes it is hard work but to better our future is what is allways in sight, plus I have 2 other children which need my love and attention too I have just recently started my course in e-commerce and project management. I have achieved good result for three of my assigment that I have done. As being an ICT assistant I have applied my skills and knowledge that I have learnt from my course to the student who are lower ability and this has improved their understanding of different aspect of ICT e.g. the overview of networks etc. Despite having a pregnant wife and hectic work commitments I have suprised myself by working ahead of schedule often completing asignments before I get a response from the previous one. Some of the sections have been very challenging but I managed to overcome the obstacles by working through them. I have now just taken my first public exam and passed on first attempt. I have now acheived the status of Microsoft Certified Professional. I am now looking forward to the next part of the course. I was determined to change my career. I came to know about skillstrain through leaflet in the post. I have joined A+/N+/CCNA course. I manage to submit majority of the A+/N+ assignments in the first attempt. I passed my A+ exam in first attempt with good marks. Since last month I am running a part time small business from home, as an IT technician. I am receiving 2-3 computers per week for repair or upgrade, baring in mind that it is relatively new business, and I haven't promoted it as much yet. I am hoping to expand it in near future through advertising and make it as full time business. I have been studying for the nine months and at times struggled to do this, after suffering two heart attacks and some days not feeling as good as I could. I have carried on and hopefully I am not too far behind, but I have gained a lot of information from this course and hopefully can put this to good use. I haven't been keeping up with my CIW course as much as I would of liked to due to health reasons, but after an MRI scan a neuroma was found which has been causing my excruciating pain almost daily now & I can have an operation very soon to remove the neuroma, finally after 12 years I will be pain free. Since ever I started training with skillstrain,I have radiated confidence and attended two interwiew and was successful to the extent that the interviewer said he is going to start recommending skillstrain when I answered the question ;what do you understand by the following HUB,ROUTER & SWITCHES. I've recently been diagnosed with Cancer (Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia) after a regular Eye Test which came as a big shock and very divastating. Im only 29 years old and I thought I had this massive life ahead of me but now its going to be a touch and go. I was meant to go for the second interveiw with a local I.T company but all that has gone out of the window. I've been going through a series of tests and awaiting to undergo chemotherapy which I hope I will respond well to. HI, 6 YEARS AGO I WS HOMELESS ON THE STREETS WITH NO HOPE FOR A FUUTURE AND CERTAINLY NEVER DREAMED OF ONE IN IT. AFTER MANAGING TO SORT MYSELF OUT A BIT AND SETTLING DOWN TRYING OUT MANY DIFFERENT COURSES. IT CAME TO LIGHT A FEW YEARS AGO THAT I SEEM TO HAVE A NATUAL ABILTIY FOR PC HARDWARE AND A FAIRLY GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORKING OF PC HARDWARE. I SAW THIS COURSE ADVERTISED ON TELEVISION AND PHONED THEM UP AND THAT'S WHERE IT ALL STARTED. Despite the pressures of caring for my one year old son and the household chore, I have achieved excellent results in the last 3 months. I have been highly motivated, working hard and received good support from my family and tutors alike. This has proved to be very fruitful and enabled me to make rapid strides in my training with very good marks. This shows that with right determination and efforts I can reach my precious goal. I thank the Skills train team for providing me the platform to rediscover my potential.
