Although I started off with doing course a bit late, I have had keen interest in it since I started reading the first section. Whatever I learn from the book in sense of practical or theory knowledge I tend to teach it to my mum and dad who had no clue about using a computer and now they can edit a html file without much difficulties.

I have been doing the CIW course for just one month and have already completed 3 tma assignments, which I have got 97% for the first 90% for the 2nd and 93% for the third. I have just handed in my fourth assignment today and hoping that I can achieve the same grades, if not better. I am enjoying the course thoroughly and find the materials very informative. The grades which I have achieved have spurred me on, and given me more motivation. It is very early stages yet but, I know I can do this !!!

For two weeks I have struggled with a certain part of my course, I have perciviered with it and through pure determination I have found that certain things on my computer was disabled/enabled due to my computer running on Vista, I found a very interesting site(iis7) that has shown me what to do, and my computer only has iis6, so now I can hopefully carry on with the rest of this chapter, I did e-mail my tutor when I found this and was very happy when Vince let me know I was correct and thanked me for informing him on this site. I am feeling proud with myself for this and I also feel that it has given me more confidence with this course.

I have been unable to continue with my studies for the past 8 months due a severe nerve pain condition developing in my neck and back. It has been so distracting and finding answers to the problem is very difficult. I have just undergone an MRI scan and await the results. The pain is just about manageable now due to having the right combination of pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs, but has left me fighting drowsiness. I am determined to get back on track with my course, and am now studying again. When I can stay awake, in short stints is best. It is very hard to get motivated when studying by yourself, but it helps a great deal to know that you have the backup of a good teaching team and support network at skills train. I will overcome this set back and succeed, and want to encourage everyone else studying under difficult circumstances to not give up, but believe in what you are doing and you will succeed, I always look around the world at problems far greater than mine to level me and focus me on how lucky I am to be where I am and doing what I am doing, the internet is making the world a smaller place, you are never alone and there is always answers available at the end of the line at skills train. Good luck fellow students.

When I started this course I saw the section 1 part A and thought that I would never be able to even do the first TMA but after studying I had a few hiccups (had to re-submit TMA 02 and TMA 03) I only got 58% on TMA 03 so I sat down and re studied the 2 lessons several times and after submitting it for the second time I got 93%!!! I was amazed and it had brought my confidence back up and I am determined to complete section 1 part A by the end of January 2009! and hopefully the entire course by January 2010!!

As a result of taking the course, I have started my own web design company as a self employed person.

Although I haven't finished the course, I feel confident that I have learned enough to start creating websites for local customers. I hope to start off with some basic sites then, once my skills have grown, I can start looking for larger contracts.

Whilst I was in full time employment when I originally started the course, I have lost my job as a result of the "credit crunch" and I am so glad that I started to learn a new skill with Skills Train.

Although money is getting a bit tight with less income (and a baby on the way in March) I am sticking with the course and set up as self employed to start generating my own income - directly as a result of what I have learned.

Setting up the company was a long process and it was an original aim of mine when I started the course. However, my 3 year plan was cut short when I lost my job and I've decided to bring the dates forward by 2 years!

CML Design was started in 2008 although I've only recently been concentrating 100% on the business and I am now fully set up working from my own office and receiving regular orders.

Due to the economic climate many businesses are cutting back on advertising expenditure - including websites but we recently finished a large site called Darwen Online (www.darwenonline.co.uk) which allows us to offer affordable web prescence for local businesses.

Following some local advertising in December this site is now generating another income stream for me and my family - all with the help of what I've learned as part of my course. I'm so pleased I made the decision to learn a new skill and in hindsight it was a very important decision for me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I am just coming to the end of completing the first book Section 1 part a.
I work 30 hours a week and I have a young child of the age of 2. I thought I would struggle with trying to revise but I haven't. I have Fridays off so I am able to revise as my son is at nursery. In this course there is quite a lot to take in. It is not easy with a young child trying to complete something like this. I am very dedicated to this course, and feel I have learnt and achieved a lot, and have found out things I never knew. Where I work I have to work on the computer system on a day to day basis. If anyone in my department is struggling they will come to me and ask for help as they feel I have a better understanding. for example on Microsoft excel she wanted to know how to add another page to the spreadsheet and she wasn't sure how to label/name the pages. So I sat with her and showed her how it was done. Also I am training another lady in our department to use our computer systems. As explained in one of the lessons it mentioned a software called PIMS, this is the name of the system we use, so I found that very helpful.

Many thanks
